Tasman McManis
Remuneration and Benefits Specialist
Tasman is an experienced senior human resources executive with over 25 years in Human Resources backed by tertiary qualifications in Engineering and Psychology. Over the last 15 years Tasman has specialized in remuneration and benefits working as a consultant and in corporate roles assisting business to address operational and strategic remuneration and benefit issues from “shop floor” through to board level.
Through his consulting experience with Watson Wyatt (global remuneration & benefits firm) and his own business, Tasman has worked in a broad range of industries including Information Technology, Finance, Medical Devices, Mining and Petroleum. Clients have included Cisco, IBM, Intel, Data General, CBA IB, State Street, Citibank, J&J Medical, BHP Coal and Caltex.
In combination with his consulting experience, Tasman has spent over a decade as the remuneration and benefits manager for IT firm Data General, gas and electricity utility company AGL and Papua New Guinea oil company Oil Search. In these positions Tasman partnered with managers to swiftly supply strategic innovative workable solutions that support the objectives of the business.
Some of Tasman’s recent consulting assignments have included:
- Introduction of a market competitive Total Employment Cost remuneration model for the MD and Executive team that was accepted by the Remuneration Committee and adopted by the Board.
- Regular review and development of employment contracts at all staff levels including the introduction of AWA’s in a tertiary institution and a manufacturing company.
- Conflict resolution working closely with disgruntled staff to understand their issues and to develop a solution that retained staff on individual contracts away from a unionised work force and a certified agreement through APESMA.
- Cultural Change through the design, consultation and introduction of job families to replace the Hay Job Evaluation system and to support the company’s desire to move to an output based culture.
- Directed the successful design and implementation of a sales remuneration plan for two recently merged organisations when employees had already rejected the company plan.
- Successfully completed the design, approval, and communicated the introduction of an executive share plan and an ESOP in less than 12 months with 100% take up rate across the company including 500 indigenous PNG employees.
- Conducted the annual salary review for 1100 staff Australia wide. Worked closely with managers to review salary benchmarks for over 300 positions, introduced a new performance based salary budget distribution model and provided full communications to over 80 managers. Review was completed on time on budget.
When he is not working Tasman enjoys keeping fit, playing tennis, reading, wine tasting and spending time with the family.
